Synopsis :

Lee Soo-jung (Ha Ji Won) is a travel agent who is seeking her good luck in Bali after a harsh and unforgiving childhood. She meets Jae-min (Jo In Sung), Kang In-wook (So Ji Sup), and Young-joo (Park Ye Jin) in Bali, three seemingly perfect people entangled in a triangle of love. When Lee Soo-jung finds herself back in Seoul, her desire for success leads her to seek Jae-min for a job, unwittingly setting off a course of events that further complicate the love triangle.

What Happened in Bali is a drama that reveals the inner materialistic desires of people. It reflects upon the sometimes ugly (but truthful) side of man where nothing matters more than money.

My two cents :

This is not just ordinary drama that you’ve ever seen. This is satire dark story about love and greed.

I interested this just because the title, and thought that the setting would be done in Bali. Yes, they shoot on Bali, but just for first 2 episodes and for the ending.

Anyway, I am not disappointed with what I saw, I love the story and the casts, even the ending. I guess there’s not any better ending like this one. Really strong and memorable. I kept thinking about it weeks later, and still wreck my heart everytime I remember it.

The casts were doing really great job, portraying their characters subtly.

My love falls to Jo In Sung. I saw him for first time here, and he’s doing great act here. I think not much actor can bring up the childish, arrogant spoilt boy and yet vulnerable towards love. I love the scene where Jung Jae Min ( the character’s name ) fell asleep on his table, and woke up with paper stick to his face! Oh, and everytime he cried, my heart ached, like I can feel and understand his struggle.

So Ji Sub ( as Kang In Wook ) also did a great job. Although I really get annoyed with his puppy and sleepy eyes, I think he has the charisma beneath his skin. He showed the cool but care attitude, and the other side he can be so slicky.

Ha Ji Won, as usual, did her best. She looked as energetic and bubbly person at the beginning, but as the story goes, she showed her materialistic and shameless side of personality. But I can not hate her, and somehow can understand all her actions.

Park Ye Jin as Yoon Jo is the one who really annoys me all the way in this serial. I hate the character, toying both the 2 male leads, and her greediness made herself suffered. And for the actress, she looks so old! I just found out that she is younger than Ha Ji Won, at same age with In Sung, but she seemed years older.

About the story, this is not kind of lovey dovey kind of thing, so if you’re looking for a romantic story, you’ll be disappointed. This is more serious, dark, and bit depressing one.

But this serial is always become one of my favorite K-dramas ever.
