Asian Idol, the result show.

who's the 1st?

No..not yet. I haven’t find out who’s the winner..( but after you finished reading this entry, I promise you’ll find out who ) because I am writing this while watching the show LIVE on RCTI.

The show was opened by Agnes Monica’s performance. I lost respect of her sometimes ago, because I think that she’s trying to imitate Britney Spears - or whosoever singer/dancer with so called sexy but hideous outfit. This night, she wore a dress ( or something looked like a mini dress ) with some red fake feathers. Oh Agnes, have you seen yourself in the mirror? You look like a drag queen! Sigh. Her song is not too good either. But we’re Indonesian love everything that westernized, so what can I say?

I only summarized the show, by the way. I was watching it, and after half of the show, I quite disappointed, because for this kind of show, it lacked the entertainment factors.

( Oh, RCTI must get high profit by this..at least there are 15 commercials aired every breaks. If one ad has to pay 20 million rupiah ~ around USD2000 ~ you do the math..)

Our President has so much spare time apparently. He welcomed the contestants when they arrived the other day, and now he came to see the show live..Mr. President, why don’t you use your time to think about our countrymen than to see this singing contest? Talk about Indonesian hospitality…

Basically, the contestants performed again, on a duet with other contestant, or with the guest stars of their countries..

I ever saw Rivermaya, Philippine’s band several times, and I like what I saw.

Guy Sebastian, the Australian Idol was showing his talent, very good voice he has.

Taylor Hicks, American Idol 5th season winner, supposedly become the star of the show, but ever since the AI show, I never like him..I don’t see what most of Americans see on him, I guess.. ( I think Guy made better performance compared to Taylor’s ).

One interesting performance came from Peterpan, Indonesian famous band, with their hit song “Tak Bisakah”. Indonesian might remember that some times ago people made big fuss about the Indian song which has too many similar notes to Peterpan’s song..but tonight, after Peterpan sang the song, Abhijeet showed up and sang the Indian song! Lol. So..no more problems about this ‘plagiarism‘? They’ve already settled it? Anybody knows about it?

( I would to take my words back. Abhijeet is not as good as I remembered. He was OK, but nothing extraordinary…So I think he won’t be the winner )

I’m surprised. Why?

It’s still a popularity contest, whether you like it or not. If you compare the population of India to Singapore, hmm… let’s say, I thought the result will be India - Indonesia - Vietnam - Phillipines .. in that order.

Because he won, it probably some sort of proof that he’s got what it takes to be an idol. I’ve never seen him singing, so I’m just commenting based on your report.

Do you know if there’s a Taiwanese / Chinese Idol? Thai? Japanese? Korean?

we in the office have some analysis about the result..
You have to vote 2 idol in 1 sms, so the combination that we think had happened :
1. Indonesian voted for Indo and Singapore..( we hate Malaysian, that’s why..:P)
2. Malaysian voted for Malay and SIngapore..( and Malaysian hate us..need to ask more? )
3. Singaporean voted for Singapore and …..( it didn’t matter anyway )
4. The rests, I think they weren’t significant anymore…
SO…that might be the explanation of what had happened…
oh politic…

ooooooooooooh… two votes huh? i didn’t know that. ok that explains everything!

the indian would vote for indian and singapore too, i think (lots of indians in spore, plus the hady charming factor, and i bet most voters are girls!!!)

sure they are..I don’t think there are many boys who are willing to spend money to sms for popularity contest like this..
and I read on the Idol Forum, most of them said that they do admit that they like Hady’s cuteness..( you should see the Asian Idol page of Hady, lots of girls leave comments how handsome Hady is..OK deeeeeee )

Anyway, I did quite shock by the result, but I’m not really care about it too..Whoever the winner would be I just want him/her to show their best on the next World Idol, where competition is tougher.

Aren’t we Asian should be unite?

( to answer the question, China, Japan, Thai and Korean didn’t have the original show of “Idol” -it’s a franchise- but I believe they have their own version of singing/talent competitions. But it was the reason they didn’t join the Asian Idol… ;)

Edit : OH YEAH, Indian would chose India and Singapore. Any country but Malaysia. Hatred is anywhere recently..

are the comments like these?

“OH H4dY! I <3 U, U r da beeeeesttest !!!”

look at the result this way:
at least, the malaysians are relieved the indonesian is not the winner, the indonesians are relieved the malaysian is not the winner, and so on..

Hady has a great singing voice but nothing extraordinary. haha. Taiwanese idol participants can beat him down any time. seriously. I think Singapore idol participants just pale in comparison to the contestants from other asian countries. I wonder why…

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_idol

There are several differences in voting and tabulation between Asian Idol and other Idol shows. Unlike the latter wherein the viewers get to vote for one contestant, the voting procedure for Asian Idol requires viewers to send SMS votes for two favorite Idols, thus allowing contestants to receive votes aside from their respective countries.[6][21]

As consideration on population size among the participating countries, tabulation of votes are done through an “Equal and Even Cumulative Method”, wherein the total votes of each country are converted into percentages.[21][22] The winner was determined through 50% viewers’ votes and 50% judges’ scores.[23]

There are however concerns about the accuracy of this voting procedure. As most if not all voters would have attempted to pair their own favorite with another contestant who in their view was the most unlikely winner so as to give their own singular favorite the most advantage possible (i.e. negative pairing). Under that circumstance, an undesirable effect may be that the unintended negaive votes would actually accumulate to a large number if the majority decided on the same contestant as the candidate for negative pairing. In that event the result could be interpreted as voting for not the most popular idol but for a contestant that viewers believe to be the weakest candidate to become Asian Idol.

Visit http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/entertainment/entertainment/view/20071210-105876/RP_bet_leading_%91Asian_Idol%92_poll for the following quote.

Quote:
Perci Intalan, ABC 5’s head of Creative and Entertainment Production, told Inquirer Entertainment that the result of the online poll was largely indicative of the contestants’ current standing in the regional contest which is being held in Jakarta, Indonesia for the first time.

“Mau’s closest competitor seems to be Vietnam’s Phuong. Mike, on the other hand, was chosen by Indonesians in a contest among four local ‘Idol’ winners. I heard that Malaysia’s Jaclyn is a superstar in her own country, though.”

Voting system

“In sum, they’re all strong contenders,” explained Intalan who had seen the contestants’ performance videos in the “Road to Asian Idol” TV special, aired on ABC 5 last Saturday.

According to the web site, viewers will be asked to vote for two contestants to eliminate “population size … as a determining factor. It takes into account any potential national bias.”

The system was formulated by FremantleMedia, “Idol” franchise holder, to ensure a level playing field.

It’s mathematical, Intalan agreed.

However, he disagreed with the strategy being proposed by some Filipinos in websites and blogs. “To help Mau, they suggest that voters pick Mau as first choice and the weakest candidate as second. The thing is, we have no way of knowing who’s the weakest,” he clarified.

End of Quote

Now it is quite clear that the majority has a very clear idea who the weakest candidate is.

Asian Idol is supposed to the the coming together of all the idols to celebrate singing prowess, etc. Who ended up as the actual winner is actually of little consequence to us the common people.

But when a faulty voting system just loused things up like this, it’s just … Trying to convince ourselves otherwise when it is less than believable is just difficult to stomach. It is insulting to the intelligence.

I’ve read this Wikipedia page, and actually I don’t mind whoever from the 6 contestants would win the title..I am Asian, I am proud to know that in Asia we have such talents like them..

I just surprised by the result, and I believe so many people also did.

About the voting procedure, it’s like egg and chicken thing, and many people are debating just because their personal intentions and preferences..

Me and friend, as you might noticed, are mocking up it, not really against the result.
I am happy for Hady, I stated it on my entry, and hope the best for him in the future..

I saw this theory in idol forum and extract a statement by one of the forumers…

“The second option being the weakest still remain a theory. If those Asians who did vote as what you suggested, then they are stupid enough to do so - spending unnecessary $$$ and so naive enough that they never think of the implications of such action.

I for once don’t believe that the Asians are that stupid and I subscribe to another theory which I believe make more sense since we are talking about chargeable smses here (some of the voters are not as rich as others, and no one wants to waste their money to vote on the weakest knowing that that will only benefit the fans of the “weakest”).

As a record, my vote consisted of the first best and the next best. How you define “the best” is subjective, especially if you are talking about 6 different cultures that speaking 6 different languages. In this case, Hady won based on majority votes (whether it is first choice or second choice, it doesn’t matter) and to this fact, whether you like it or not, majority (who voted him) may believe that he deserves it. Period.”

The forumer also sited one eg that the Indian definition of “the best” consist of entertaining value…this make sense as a power vocal may not necessary consider as “the best” to people of different culture. And I know that the phillipines are rather romantic society that will go with singer who can deliver the most sincere and able to connect with the audiences with their songs. So Hady won as he may be either the best or second best to one people choice, and not so much the weakest as what stated in the earlier theory (unless we are speaking of those naives and stupid few :) hahaha ).

congratulations hady……
u very charming….. Hehehehehe….
And do the best, keyyyy….

ohhhh…now I got Hady’s fan spam too? :P

congratulations hady……

I’m a Jaclyn Victor fan through and through, and yes her toughest competitors were definitely Mau and Mike, no doubt about that. However, when I heard the winner announced I actually laughed out and you know…I didn’t feel bad at all, in fact I felt…relief?

With Hady as the winner and with comments like the one I copied and pasted up there…yea,to me IMHO…the title had not much meaning.. we have someone similar to that, called the “King of SMS”. You should check out his “singing”..hehe!

We are just really happy that stars like Mau, Mike and Jac have been given the chance to expose their wonderful talents to Asia and hopefully to the world at large….a title means nothing…what matters I think is the ability to stand up on a stage and enthrall the audience with the voice and talent and gift bestowed on you..which these three truly international grade stars have.

yuhui..dapad postingan lagi….hm..hady mirza emang T.O.P.B.G.T…bangetnyah ..udah…panjangggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg bangedh…salut bwad hady..selalu…
